Two Industrial Cities of the 20th Century. Zlín and Ivrea

Abstract

Diplomová práce srovnává urbanistické rozvržení a architektonický charakter dvou evropských průmyslových měst, Zlína a italské Ivrey. Ta v průběhu 20. století prožívají překotný hospodářský i stavební rozvoj, podmíněný aktivitou obuvnického podniku Baťa a závodu na výrobu psacích strojů Olivetti. Práce se snaží konfrontovat individuální přístupy zmíněných firem k výstavbě svých továrních areálů, veřejných budov i ubytování zaměstnanců.

The thesis compares urban layout and architectural character of two European industrial cities - Zlín in the Czech Republic and Ivrea in Italy. In the 20th century, both of the cities were faced with rapid economic and construction development triggered by the activity of shoe manufacturer Baťa and typewriter manufacturer Olivetti. This work confronts the attitudes of the two companies towards the construction of factory complexes, public buildings, and accommodation facilities for employees.
