Autor zde předkládá zkrácenou verzi argumentu, že Baťův podnik i soustava řízení byly živé organismy k jejichž studiu i použití je třeba přistupovat z hlediska biologického, spíše než z tradičního hlediska mechansticko-inženýrského. Podniková organizace typu Baťa nebyl stroj i když mnohé jeho subsystémy (metody, techniky, přístupy, technologie a podpůrné systémy) lze jako stroje a mechanismy studovat. Jejich celková integrovaná funkce a jejich interakce s lidskými bytostmi však fungovaly "biologicky". V tomto poznání spočívá přetrvávající inspirace, síla a příklad Baťova systému pro budoucí generace.

We can choose to view a company as a (money-making) machine or as a (learning, adapting) living organism, self-sustainable within its co-produced environment. The difference between such two views is essential. Machines and organisms behave differently. Machines are all commands, instructions and programs, while organisms are all about environment, conditions and nourishment. The notion of living company goes well beyond simplistic metaphors of brain, heart and soul. Such concepts, to be useful, have to become operational, subject to strategic enhancement of the company, not just of its undoubtedly living components.
