dc.description.abstract	Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá používání fragmentárních konstrukcí v britských a amerických zpravodajských vysíláních prostřednictvím nahrávek hlavních denních zpráv jednotlivých stanic. Navazuje na výzkum Elisabeth Reber v její práci "On the variation of fragmental constructions in British English and American English postmatch interviews", a to porovnáním rozdílů ve frekvenci používání fragmentárních konstrukcí mezi britskými a americkými zpravodajskými relacemi. Dále rozšiřuje výzkum Jamese V. Boshe uvedený v jeho práci "Sentence Fragments in the NBC Nightly News: A Grammatical Analysis", a to zahrnutím dalších zpravodajských kanálů: CNN a Democracy Now!, a BBC, ITV News a SkyNews. Tato práce se rovněž zabývá otázkou, zda má úroveň formálnosti vliv na výskyt fragmentárních konstrukcí, a snaží se vyvrátit stereotyp, že americká angličtina je méně formální, a tedy by v ní mělo docházet k častějšímu používání fragmentárních konstrukcí. Výzkum ukázal, že používání fragmentů nesouvisí s typem anglického jazyka, ale s preferencemi jednotlivích zpravodajských stanic.

dc.description.abstract-translated	This thesis examines the use of fragmental constructions in British and US news broadcasts using recordings of the broadcaster's Top Headlines of the day. It expands on research done by Elisabeth Reber in her "On the variation of fragmental constructions in British English and American English postmatch interviews" by comparing the differences in frequency of use of fragmental constructions between British and US news broadcasts, and research done by James V. Bosh in his "Sentence Fragments in the NBC Nightly News: A Grammatical Analysis" by including CNN and Democracy Now! and BBC, ITV News and SkyNews. This thesis also asks the question whether the level of formality has an effect on the occurrence of fragmental constructions and attempts to debunk the stereotype of American English being more lax, thus more fragmental constructions would be expected and level of formality would be lower. This research revealed that usage of fragments is not linked to the type of English, but rather to the preference of the studio itself.
