dc.description.abstract	Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá fenoménem známým jako mccarthismus v kontextu studené války a zkoumá jeho dopady na americkou společnost, legislativu a politickou kulturu. Úvodní kapitoly se věnují historickému pozadí, vývoji studené války - v rámci toho jsou analyzovány dopady druhé světové války a poválečné rozdělení Evropy - a vzniku protikomunistických nálad ve Spojených státech amerických. Dále je zde nastíněn vývoj komunistické strany v USA Hlavní část práce analyzuje samotnou éru mccarthismu v padesátých letech dvacátého století, zaměřuje se na osobnost senátora Josepha McCarthyho, jeho politickou kariéru a vysvětluje jeho strategii zastrašování veřejnosti a americké vlády skrze obviňování z komunismu. Závěr práce popisuje takzvaná armádní slyšení (Army Hearings) a McCarthyho postupný pád z politické přízně a tím i konec mccarthismu jako takového. Práce se dále zabývá změny americké legislativy motivované strachem z komunismu, vliv na svobody jednotlivců, diskriminaci menšin i osudy obviněných. Závěrečná část se věnuje celkovému dopadu mccarthismu na občanská práva, kulturu a zahraniční politiku USA. Cílem práce je nabídnout komplexní pohled na období mccarthismu a jeho dlouhodobé důsledky pro americkou demokracii.

dc.description.abstract-translated	This bachelor's thesis examines the phenomenon known as McCarthyism in the context of the Cold War and explores its impact on American society, legislation, and political culture. The introductory chapters provide historical background, outlining the development of the Cold War including the consequences of World War II and the post-war division of Europe and the emergence of anti-communist sentiment in the United States. The evolution of the Communist Party in the USA is also briefly discussed. The main part of the thesis analyses the McCarthy era of the 1950s, focusing on the figure of Senator Joseph McCarthy, his political career, and his strategy of intimidating the public and the U.S. government through accusations of communism. The final chapters describe the so-called Army Hearings and McCarthy's gradual fall from political favour, marking the end of McCarthyism as a movement. Furthermore, the thesis examines changes in American legislation motivated by fear of communism, their impact on individual freedoms, the discrimination of minorities, and the fates of the accused. The concluding section considers the broader effects of McCarthyism on civil rights, culture, and U.S. foreign policy. The aim of the thesis is to provide a comprehensive view of the McCarthy era and its long-term consequences for American democracy.
